We sat down with Senior Product Developer Amy Koster to learn more about the inspiration, design process, and thoughtful details behind these new products.

Creating A Better Way To Organize And Create

The idea for the Studio Backpack and Studio Case began with a simple observation: scrapbookers needed a better way to bring their creative spaces with them.

Amy and the product team heard from community members who were piecing together their own storage solutions, often combining multiple bags and totes to carry everything they needed.

“We heard from a number of scrapbookers in our community that they were juggling multiple bags, digging through supplies, and sometimes carrying really heavy totes throughout the day,” Amy shares. “We wanted to create a system that keeps everything organized in one place, easy to find and easy to access.”

Rather than creating another general-purpose storage option, the team focused on building something specifically for the supplies and workflows that make scrapbooking unique.

The goal was not just to carry more. It was to make the entire creative experience feel more seamless, from preparing supplies at home to sitting down at a crop ready to create.

A System Designed To Grow With You

One of the biggest design considerations was creating products that could support scrapbookers at every stage of their creative journey.

For someone attending their first crop or Beginner Class, having a place for everything can make the experience feel more approachable. That’s especially true when starting with an Album Kit, which includes the coordinated supplies needed to complete an entire album. The Studio Backpack and Studio Case provide a dedicated place to organize those supplies, helping new scrapbookers feel confident bringing their projects to life from the very beginning.

At the same time, experienced scrapbookers often appreciate the same thoughtful organization for the tools and supplies they have collected over time.

“We wanted these products to work just as well for someone who’s new to scrapbooking and attending their first crop as they do for someone who has been scrapbooking for years,” Amy explains.

The result is a system that can meet scrapbookers wherever they are, whether they are learning the basics, creating their first completed album or bringing years of creative tools and supplies to their next retreat.

Why A Backpack?

The decision to create a backpack came down to more than just style. It was about making the experience of transporting supplies easier.

Scrapbooking supplies are often a collection of smaller pieces that add up quickly. When everything needed for a creative day is packed together, comfort becomes an important part of the experience.

“One of the biggest reasons that we opted for a backpack was comfort,” Amy says. “Scrapbooking supplies, when stacked, can get fairly heavy, and carrying around that much weight on one shoulder can become uncomfortable throughout the day.”

The backpack design helps distribute that weight more evenly, while also giving scrapbookers the freedom to keep both hands available while traveling to crops, classes and retreats.

It was also an opportunity to bring something new to the Creative Memories product line.

“Creative Memories has never launched a backpack in its history,” Amy shares. “We really wanted to offer that to our customers as a way to meet their needs.”

Built Around The Way Scrapbookers Create

The Studio Backpack and Studio Case were not designed by starting with a traditional storage format and adapting it for scrapbooking. The process started with the supplies themselves.

The team tested prototypes using real Creative Memories products to understand how scrapbookers would actually use each compartment and pocket.

“We went through numerous rounds of prototyping and testing with actual scrapbooking supplies to ensure that the craft case and the Studio Backpack could work as a team to store, organize and transport all of those core Creative Memories products,” Amy explains.

That testing influenced details throughout the design. The Studio Backpack features a padded sleeve to protect 12×12 albums, organized storage areas for tools and accessories and a main compartment sized to accommodate larger supplies, including the 12-inch Trimmer.

The Studio Case brings the same intentional approach to smaller essentials, with a two-tier design created for frequently used tools like Tape Runners, punches, pens and other accessories.

Every element was created with a scrapbooker’s workflow in mind.

The Details That Make A Difference

For Amy, the most memorable parts of the design process were often the small details that could have a big impact on the everyday experience.

One feature she especially loves is the gusseted zipper pocket inside the Studio Backpack.

“It’s the perfect quick access spot for the things you reach for most,” Amy shares. “Whether that’s your phone, keys, wallet or even those essential small craft supplies that you go to time and time again.”

Those thoughtful details are what turn storage from simply functional into something that supports creativity.

“Every pocket and compartment has a duty and a purpose,” Amy says.

Creating Confidence Before The First Page Begins

Behind every design decision was the same goal: making it easier for scrapbookers to spend less time preparing and more time creating.

“I hope that scrapbookers feel like these products were designed specifically with them in mind,” Amy says.

Because scrapbooking is different from other creative hobbies, the supplies, tools and memories we work with deserve a storage system designed around the way we create.
